My comments;
Referring to the article above, we can see how one of the biggest Supermarket in the industry is reducing the electricity required in lighting by using LED lightings. Most supermarkets in Singapore have also gradually converted to LED lighting tube, for example the Giant, Cold Storage, NTUC fairprice outlets across the Singapore island.
Walmart's strategy of minimising operational costs through capital investment in LED lightings goes a long way to help maintain its low prices of goods to consumers. LED lightings can also be seen as an integral component for energy efficiency models and environmental sustainability targets these days.
For any retails shops that operate more than 12 hours a day, it will be a win win situation for all parties. LEDs lightings can lower operating cost on a monthly basis that allow businesses to channel the savings to benefit customers and to grow its business further. From how i see it, LED lightings is a powerful tool to free up resources to help businesses grab opportunities. But, such a tool does require a significant upfront investment in your compare fluorescent to LEDs.
However, which investments in the world dosen't require intial capital? It is fortunate though, that Singapore and many developed nations governments have many support schemes for such green initiatives. Opportunity is really for those that are prepared. While investments doesn't guarantee returns, LED lightings does. Where can anyone find such a riskfree investment that generates a 30 - 50% cost savings per month (inclusive of installation cost)?
